Customer reference for renovations services as told to pickapro by Paddy Byrne from Palmerstown, Dublin 20 on 14-Feb-2008

When was the work done?
The work was done in October, 2007.

What was involved?
Philip did a lot of work for me both inside and outside the house. The inside work involved knocking down an interior wall to create an open plan sitting room and also renovating the attic upstairs to better enable us to use it for storage. The outside work included paving the driveway in front of the house while doing a total makeover of the back garden i.e. building a deck, patio. They also converted a shed at the back into a computer room and study.

How did you choose PJB Construction Ltd?
Word of mouth. A neighbour of mine had used PJB Construction to build them an extension and they recommended them to me. I went over to see the work and was so impressed with the quality that I gave them a call.

Had you definite ideas in mind before you talked to Philip Brown?
I had a very basic idea of what I wanted but didn't really know how to go about it.

Did Philip introduce new ideas?
He offered lots of good ideas but the advice I appreciate most concerned the attic upstairs. I had originally planned on a full attic conversion and had spoken to a builder who said he could do it for 20,000 Euro. That seemed like an awful lot of money to spend since we mainly just wanted to use the room for storage. Philip on the other hand recommended against a full conversion not only because of the high cost, but because I would lose valuable storage space. I really appreciate the fact that Philip was looking out for my best interests. The attic really turned out well and is perfect for what we need it for. It's got a new floor, skylight and plenty of room for storage.

How did the project run?
I have no complaints at all. Everything was excellent.

What was the biggest benefit to you of using PJB Construction?
I'm very happy with how all of the work turned out. Philip is brilliant. Another benefit for me was the fact that they were able to do all of the work themselves. Having one company do everything not only saved me money, it meant I didn't have to hire various tradesmen to do different jobs.

What's your favourite part now?
Everyone, including myself really love the work carried out in the back garden. The new landscaping, deck and patio are really lovely. The study and computer room at the back of the garden has the look and feel of a bungalow. I'm delighted with it.

Would you recommend PJB Construction Ltd to others?
Yes, definitely.

Any tips for other people?
Make sure that before you begin any building project that both you and the builder have a clear understanding of what the space is going to be used for. For instance, had I gone with the builder who wanted to convert my attic, I would have wasted a lot of money. Philip listened to me when I told them what I wanted to use for attic for and came up with something more appropriate and less expensive.
